Investments (an update from El Salvador)

What a feeling it was to be there on the opening day. At that very moment when I realized that these girls had never even touched a computer before. They had no idea how to run a mouse, or how to click the mouse. And we were part of that very moment. Oh, the places they will go!

“Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!”
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!

We had the privilege to take part in the opening of a computer lab at an all girls orphanage in El Salvador. The girls that occupy the orphanage are at risk girls from the ages of 11 to 17. There are many reasons that these girls are here – some could have come from abusive homes, some could have run away from home and live on the streets, some could be children of gang members…whatever the case may be, one thing is for certain – all of these girls have felt a sense of loss and abandonment in their lives. It’s so nice to show up and show them that we believe in them. That they can do it – they can succeed in life no matter what their circumstances may be. When we donate “money and material things” we are not only giving them “things” we are saying much more than that. We are saying – “we care for you”, “we believe in you”, ”you can do it” and we are investing in their very lives.

I am so proud to belong to an organization that makes things happen, that makes dreams come true for the hurting helpless and hopeless around the world.

I've included some photos of the ceremony. The girls did a play, played the flute, danced to Gangnam style, and of course a photo of the girls in the computer lab.
